Obituary

Alison Bynum Grimes, 57, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family on August 14 following a courageous 15 year battle with cancer. She was born to Jack Foust Bynum and Nina Stillman Bynum in Wilmington, North Carolina on November 6, 1958 and was raised in Jacksonville. She graduated from Terry Parker High School in 1976, and continued her education at Florida School of the Arts where she graduated in 1980. She was employed by the Florida Times Union as a graphic artist, where she won a first place "Addy Award," both local and state. On August 18, 1984 she married her love, Jeff Robert Grimes, and together they had four children. Alison was a creative spirit, a faithful member of the church, a giver to those in need, and most of all, was selflessly devoted to her family. Alison was often found chaperoning field trips, assisting teachers in the classroom, and alongside swimming pools and baseball fields cheering on her children. When she was not with her children, she enjoyed playing tennis, spending time with friends, and drawing.
Alison is predeceased by her father, Jack Foust Bynum and her daughter, Hayley Beatrice Grimes. She is survived by her husband Jeff Grimes, her mother Nina Stillman Bynum, her sister Karen Bynum Culpepper, daughters Erin Grimes and Shelby Grimes Leuellen, son Patrick Grimes, golden retrievers Summer and Storm, aunt and uncle Joanne and Neil Stout, cousins Dottie Mayes, Donna Wells (Ken), Laura Forsyth (Dick), and many nieces, nephews, and loyal friends.
