Anita D. Akins of Keystone Heights, FL passed away on Monday July 8, 2019. She was 62. Anita was born on November 5, 1956, in Bluefield, West Virginia, the daughter of Arthur Lee and Lola Catherine (Hicks) Barnes.

Anita's favorite things in life were definitely her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. Christmas was her favorite holiday of the year, from the Christmas lights, to the tree, to the gifts for the kids, to cooking a large meal for the entire family. Her second most favorite holiday was Easter. She would spend hours boiling eggs for the grandkids so they could spend hours decorating them with her. She loved her Indian heritage and was very proud of it. She enjoyed crafting, cooking, yard sales, shopping and remodeling (when dad went out to sea). She loved her yard and the many different flowers she had planted, as well as collecting an assortment of knick-knacks. She enjoyed fishing with the love of her life, Uncle Jack, and Grandma Lola. They enjoyed their fishing competitions for sure.  Anita loved all of her family very much, enjoyed cooking and socializing at every holiday possible.

Anita is survived by; Angelia & Derrell Keaton (daughter) and Terry & Dorothy Akins Jr. (son). Grandchildren; TJ, Brianna, Katelyn, William and Sara. Great-grandsons;  Wesley, Easton and Braxton.  Shirley J. Tate (sister), Chester & Linda Tate (brother), Brenda & Mike Kelly (sister), Faye Tate (sister-in-law, Michael S. Tate) and many nieces, nephews and many other family members.

Anita was predeceased by; Terry L. Akins, Sr (husband), Carter L. Starling (great-grandson), Lola Hicks (mother), Michael S. Tate (brother) and Jack E. Hicks (Uncle).

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 16th at the Arlington Park Funeral Home, 6920 Lone Star Rd, Jacksonville, Florida. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.  Burial will follow at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd, Jacksonville, FL.
