Anna Jean
Davis
d. Sep 4, 2015
Anna Jean Davis, 86, passed peacefully September 4, 2015, with her family by her side. She was a native of Hazelwood, NC and lived in Jacksonville, FL the past 58 years.
She attended Mars Hill College, but left early to marry Ben Davis and move to Norfolk VA, where they started their family. They later moved to Jacksonville, where the family grew and Anna Jean busied herself with PTA, Girl Scouts and many other activities to improve the lives of her children and others. She worked for NCR and the Duval County School Board as a secretary.
The past two years have been a struggle for her, but she never complained and always had a sweet disposition, she was a true North Carolina southern lady, and she loved to talk about her beloved Western North Carolina to anyone who would listen! She kept in touch with some many of her high school friends, and was instrumental in organizing their class reunions.
Until her diminishing health, she had been a volunteer at Brooks Rehabilitation, was active in the Arlington Quilt Guild, Arlington Chapter of AARP, Old Arlington, Inc., classes at the Fortuna Senior Center, and the Sunday school class at the Ft. Caroline United Methodist church. She also spent many hours knitting her "Dog Walking" caps and recycling old greeting cards into new.
She had a light-heart, a fun spirit, and always a smile for everyone; she ever met a stranger. She always had a smile and a kind word. If you met her once, you had a friend forever. She was a wonderful mother, and adored her granddaughters.
She is pre-deceased by her husband, Ben H. Davis, parents, Commodore Spurgeon and Jessie Davis, brothers, Claude Davis, Kenneth Davis, Marshall Davis, Joe Davis, Jack Davis, Max Davis and sister Catherine Davis.
She is survived by Brother, Chester Davis, Raleigh, NC, Daughter Ann Azroff (Bob), granddaughters, Sarah and Natalie Azroff, Jacksonville, FL and Daughter Marci Davis (Joe), Eminence MO and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and good friends.
If you wish, donations may be made to the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation.
