Aranka Makovich passed away peacefully on January 9, 2024. She was born May 9, 1930 in Belgrade, Yugoslavia and grew up in Budapest, Hungary.

Aranka along with her beloved husband of 58 years, Paul Makovich, fled Hungary after the 1956 Hungarian Revolution. The young couple courageously left all family and friends behind and immigrated to the US so they could start a new life and raise a family in a free country. As the matriarch of the Makovich family, Aranka (mom) will be dearly missed. Her delicious Hungarian cooking and baked treats can never be replaced nor replicated.

Aranka was predeceased by her husband, Paul Makovich, and grandson, Richie Nelson. Survivors include son Paul J. Makovich, daughters Rita A. Nelson (Rick) & Rosemary Z. Makovich (Eric Losey), and grandsons Dr. Zachary Makovich & Ryan Nelson.

Visitation will be held 6-8 PM Thursday, Jan. 18, 2024 at Arlington Park Funeral Home, 6920 Lone Star Rd. A Funeral Service will be held 11 AM Friday, Jan. 19, 2024 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 742 Arlington Rd N.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Community Hospice and Palliative Care, Jacksonville.
