Arleff Robert (Bob) Chipps, age 88, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, June 8, 2025.
He was born on Monday, April 5, 1937, in Weirton, West Virginia to Floyd Ray Chipps and Gladys Ila Baker. He married Evelyn Mary Campbell on August 23, 1957. They were married for sixty-five years. He worked at the University of Michigan for over thirty years, primarily at the College of Literature, Science and Arts.
Bob was a long time member of the Dexter Gospel Church in Dexter, Michigan where he served as the church song leader, Sunday School teacher, Youth Leader, AWANA Commander, and Deacon. In the 1990's he and Evelyn retired from the University of Michigan and moved to Sharon, Pennsylvania where they managed the day-to-day operation of the Independent Gospel Mission, an organization Evelyn's father had helped found as well as Pastoring the New Fellowship Baptist Church. In 2006 Bob and Evelyn moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana where they lived and served at the New Heights Baptist Church. In 2010 they moved to Jacksonville, Florida and became active members at Victory Baptist Church. No matter where they lived, Bob was always very active in serving in the church.
Bob is survived by his daughters, Melody (John) Hewitt of Jacksonville, FL and Mary (Bryan) Allen of Hermitage, PA; his grandchildren, Christian (Corinne) Allen, Alex (Megan) Fox, Brandon Allen, Bethany Allen and Joshua Allen; his five great-grandchildren, Aidan, Leia and Lucas Allen, and Benjamin and Charlotte Fox; his sisters, Edna Johnson of Navarre, Florida and Sharon (Daniel) Wolverton of Weirton, West Virginia, as well as several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Ray and Gladys Chipps; his wife, Evelyn Mary Chipps, and his grandson, Robert Fox.
