Obituary of Arthur Johnson
A. Hugh Johnson, 88, entered into rest on April 6, 2013. He is remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend. Hugh was born on November 13, 1924 in Hapeville, GA to the late Arthur F. and Mamie Joe Johnson. He is a decorated veteran from WWII where he served with the 264th infantry with the US Army. Hugh worked for Colonial Stores in coffee manufacturing until he was recruited by Winn-Dixie stores in 1965 to come to Jacksonville to run the Astor Products manufacturing plants. He retired from Winn-Dixie in 1991. Hugh was an avid golfer, and long time member of Hidden Hills Country Club. He loved fishing, hunting and cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs. He was a Master Mason for over 50 years with the East Point Georgia Masonic Lodge and a dedicated member of San Jose Church of Christ. Above all, he took great pride in his family and caring for those around him. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Vivian Johnson; brothers, Rudolph and Raymond Johnson; and grandson, Bennett Johnson. He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Ruth D. Johnson; children, Larry (Peggy) Johnson, Nelson (Nancy) Johnson, Jackie (Paul) Sullivan; step-daughter, Julee (Malcolm) Smith; grandchildren, Cameron, Andrea, Laura, and Alex Johnson, Kyle and Kara Sullivan; great grandchildren, Max Ortiz, Taylor Peel, Troy and Lexie Johnson; sister, Evelyn Niland, numerous nieces and nephews, and many treasured friends. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 from 6-8pm at Arlington Park Funeral Home, 6920 Lone Star Road, Jacksonville, FL. His service will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at 11:00am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Arlington Park Cemetery.
