Obituary of Backstrom Neeley, Sr.

Backstrom Burnside Neeley, Sr., 95 born December 11, 1919 to John William Neeley, Jr and Mary Elizabeth Backstrom Neeley in Columbia, South Carolina, passed away August 16, 2015 in Jacksonville, Florida. He was preceded in death by both parents, his wife Adrienne Celeste Lathan Neeley of 52 years, and three brothers John William (Bubba) Neeley III, Norbert Heath Neeley and Robert Caldwell Neeley. He is survived by son, Backstrom Burnside Neeley Jr., Hector Andres Bonilla, and many nephews and nieces. After Backstrom served in the Naval Air Corps during World War II, he went on to graduate in Architecture from Clemson University in 1950. He worked as registered Architect for CSX Railroad and its predecessors from 1959 until 1982 in both Richmond, Va. and Jacksonville, Fl. An avid fisherman and gardener he also enjoyed travelling extensively with his wife and he loved reading novels. With Adrienne, he also enjoyed dancing regularly at Ponte Vedra Country Club. He was a member of the Sons of the Revolution as well as Sons of the Confederacy. A Graveside Celebration Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at Mill Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery, Columbia, South Carolina with Reverend Mark Bredholt officiating. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 118 East Monroe St., Jacksonville, FL 32202.
