Betty Jean Wingate, 89, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2016. She was born in Waycross, Georgia to Myra and Willie Oxford on September 30, 1927 as the first daughter of seven children.

She was a faith-filled and ever loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She and her husband were loyal members of Parkwood Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Col. Waldo Frederick Wingate Sr, and their son, Matthew Garrett Wingate Sr., and several siblings.

She is survived by her daughter, Patti, sons, Fred (Julie) and Stuart (Rebecca). Her grandchildren include Dana (Mark), Garrett (Andreina), Lindsay (Chris), Jessica (Shawn), Tyler, Maggie, Seth, Shea, Abby, Jenna, Matt Jr, and Trevor. Her great grandchildren include Taylor, Bryce, Hadlea, Lincoln, Sofia, and Carlos.

The family would like to invite all who loved her to a viewing and celebration of her life at Parkwood Baptist Church, 7900 Lone Star Road, Jacksonville, FL on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 from 10:00am to 12:00pm. Committal will follow immediately at Arlington Park Cemetery.
