Betty Eileen Matzen, 81, born December 30, 1935 in Auburn, New York to Francis Burns and Ethel Weaver Burns, passed away February 11, 2017 in Jacksonville, Florida.

Betty worked as a bank teller after graduation from St. Alphonsus Catholic School until shortly after her marriage to Robert, June 11, 1955. Betty assumed the busy role as a stay at home wife and mother through the birth and upbringing of her seven children. She later worked briefly for a local daycare in Jacksonville and then started and worked in her own home daycare for several years before retiring in the early 90's.

Betty was an avid reader of mystery novels and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially during the annual family beach vacation in St. Augustine.

She was a faithful member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church since moving to Jacksonville in 1972.

She was preceded in death by both parents; her husband of 37 years, Robert Dennis Matzen on February 8, 1993; Sisters MaryEllen Smith and Frances Kay Vatter.

Betty is survived by children, Michael (Regina), Russell (Barbara), Cheryl (Alex), Robert (Lisa), Patricia (Michael), Laureen, John (Shelley), grandchildren, Tori, Stephen, Katie, Joel, Jill, Adam, Alan, Michael, Matthew, Christina, Carrie, Joseph, Zachary, Jonathan, Megan, Emilee and Luke, great grandchildren, Anna, Gunner, Aubrey, Addy, Gabi, Parker, Mia, Sawyer, sister Patricia Langtry (Donald), and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

The Matzen family will receive friends for a Visitation Gathering 3PM, Friday, February 17, 2017 in the chapel of the funeral home.

A Celebration of Life and Funeral Mass will be held at 4PM with Father Anthony Bonela officiating.
