IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bonnie Mae
Roberts
March 22, 1945 – July 19, 2025
Bonnie Mae Roberts, of Starke, FL, passed away on July 19, 2025, after battling Parkinson's with Lewy Body dementia for several years. She is preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Ed Roberts; her daughter, Melissa Speer; her father, Sam Jones, who died when she was 2½ years old; her mother, Ora Mae Smith; her brothers, Jim and Horace Smith; and her grandson, Joey Sculley (son of Bill and Michelle).
She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Michelle, and her husband, Bill Sculley, with their children: William Sculley and his wife Mia Baswell, Michael Sculley, and Leslie Seest. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Mark Speer (Melissa's husband), along with his wife Julie and their son Ethan Speer.
Bonnie leaves behind great-grandchildren Aiden Hodges (son of Michael), as well as Benjamin and Luke Seest (children of Leslie). Many cousins and other extended family members also survive her, including Katie and Jonathan Sculley (Leslie's sister and brother), whom she lovingly considered her adopted grandchildren.
Bonnie was born on March 22, 1945, in Bedford, Ohio. Her father, Sam Charles Jones, passed away from melanoma when she was just 2½ years old in Richmond, Virginia. During her childhood, she lived in various places, including South Carolina, Virginia, and Atlanta, GA.
She eventually moved to Jacksonville, where she began working for Graeme Jones and later spent time working in banking. It was in Jacksonville that she met her husband, Ed, who had relocated to open a new manufacturing plant for House of Ceramics, later known as ExCel Slip. They were married on April 10, 1965, honeymooned in St. Simons, and began their life together, raising their two daughters.
Bonnie worked at various jobs before becoming a mother and later devoted her time to the PTA, serving as a Girl Scout leader and dance parent. As her daughters entered high school, she became deeply involved in supporting their extracurricular activities, especially softball, cheerleading, and volleyball.
As her daughters moved into adulthood, Bonnie returned to the workforce in various administrative roles, eventually becoming her husband's assistant at ExCel Slip until his passing in 1996. She remained in that role until the company relocated. After working other jobs, she retired due to health issues following an accident that injured her back and neck.
Bonnie moved to Starke in 2006, first with her mother and later with her daughter Michelle and son-in-law Bill as her health declined. She passed away peacefully in her daughter's arms on July 19, surrounded by her family.
