IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Brenda Lynette
Wright Jordan
March 13, 1941 – February 20, 2020
Brenda (Pokie) Lynette Wright Jordan, the eldest daughter of seven siblings, was born on March 13, 1941, in Selbyville, Delaware to parents James H. Wright, Jr. and Harriett Raymond (Effie Kilson and William Raymond); Her formative years were in Twin Oaks, Chester and Philadelphia, PA. She attended public school in Chester and Philadelphia, PA.
She received her religious training at St Daniel's and Asbury AME in Chester, Pa. She was very creative and learned to sew at an early age and worked at Chips and Twigs Clothiers in Philadelphia constructing men's suits on the "piece work" pay scale. Brenda eventually secured a position as a Wage Grade (WG) worker at the Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC), Oregon Ave, Philadelphia, PA, making custom made military uniforms. By taking all the classes and courses available to her, she worked her way up off of the cutting room floor with a promotion to the Inventory and Accounting Department. She was heralded for her work for ensuring all the remains of fallen military members from VIETNAM and the victims from the "Jim Jones Massacre" had proper and dignified transportation back to the United States. She later transferred to DPSC Richmond VA, where she retired after 25 years of faithful service. Brenda remained active by joining church, becoming a Boy Scout Den Mother and working at HEADSTART and TARGET.
Brenda married James Malachi Jordan (d) on 21 October 1972, there were good times and bad times like any blended marriage, but she was determined to stick by the man she loved regardless of challenges they faced, and she was by his side until he left her May 2004. She said, "he kept EVERY promise he ever made to me." Brenda and James as a couple accepted Jesus as their Lord and Saviour and were baptized together at Chamberlayne Baptist Church in Richmond VA, along with their Godsons Luis and Victor Velasquez. They later joined Faith Landmark Ministries where they were both active in the church, and Brenda worked in the Sunday School and Clothing Ministry and Food/Health Ministry Departments.
Brenda was an avid cook, canner, seamstress and crafter. Along with her neighbor girlfriends she made most of the neighborhood prom dresses. She crotched and fished (until she discovered acrylic nails). After James passed in 2004, she relocated to Jacksonville, FL in October 2005 to be near her daughter Robin. She worked for HEADSTART, David Valentine's Bail Bonds as a Bond Courier, and lastly at WE CARE Health Organization, once again assisting those in need by processing applications for those ineligible for MEDICAID or MEDICARE.
She was a consummate giver. Like her mother, Harriett, Brenda's home was always open to someone in need. If you needed a place to stay or eat, Brenda had a plate and a pillow and blanket for you. In 2006 she was anointed as one of the Church Mothers at Way Truth and Life Ministries, Inc., under Dr. Pastor J. Rene Carter and Bishop Malcom Carter. In 2010, she received her "Outreach Ministry Worker" Certificate as part of the Hospital Visiting Prayer Team. In 2009 she completed the "Basic Ministerial Training Course" from Water From the Rock Ministries under the Carters as well. She loved going to the hospital to visit members or any other patient who wanted prayer and/or to provide communion for them. Her final church home was Faith Life Evangelistic Ministries, under Pastor Daniel S Cohen, III, where she was also again one of the Church Mothers, sang on the Praise and Worship Team, complied 1 st Time Visitor Gift Bags, Decoration Team and constructed all the new drapes for the church and kept listings of all the Local Community Programs for anyone who needed extra help and kitchen worker.
On a trip to Seattle, WA, to do a "hospital health and wellness check" for her brother Dion, before taking flight, she suffered a double heart attack and quadruple bypass October 18, 2017. She unfortunately suffered further serious debilitating injuries, causing a rough and a lengthy illness. But because of her fierce tenacity and her a perseverance to recover she fought a valiant fight that AMAZED her doctors. She proved over and over again that MIRACLES CAN happen everyday. "What you don't want me here; you better do what you need to do to save my life and keep me here"; "I've got work to do"; and "Die Die Die, Ain't nobody dying" were very constant and adamant saying of Brenda's.
Brenda fought with all she had to stay here, with ALL SHE HAD, throughout this tedious journey through the valley. The most important thing she kept with ALL that she lost was her sense of humor. She never failed to make her nurses or doctors laugh, some she completely ignored, but others adored her for her smile and genuine comedic nature.
But unfortunately, she suffered a third heart attack that she could not bounce back from prior to discharge. So just shy of her 79 th birthday, The Father saw fit to have a DIVINE AGREEMENT meeting with the Son and the Holy Ghost and decided she had earned her CROWNS and the Most Precious of all compliments "Well Done My Good and Faithful Servant" and called Brenda Lynette Home TO Glory for an Exceptionally WELL DONE JOB, on Thursday, February 20, 2020 in Memorial Hospital Jacksonville, Florida.
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, James Henry Wright Jr and Harriett Raymond Wright Moore; her brother Barry Juan Wright (twin of Bonnie), and her husband James Malachi Jordan and her beloved cats, Siam and Jean Claude (JC), Pookie.
