Obituary

Burk Bryant Brinton was born on March 20, 1926 and passed away on October 24, 2018.  Coming of age during WWII, Burk joined the Navy and served as a photographer on the battleship USS Iowa.  He then received his Bachelors Degree from Arkansas State University and a Masters Degree from Peabody College for Teachers which is now part of Vanderbilt University.  After teaching high school and owning his own photography studio, Burk was recruited to be a store manager for Sherwin Williams and quickly rose to the position of area manager which took him from Arkansas to Denver, Colorado and then to Kansas City before coming to Jacksonville, FL.  In 1976 he started his own paint company, Brinton's Paint, in downtown Jacksonville on Bay Street before moving to their current location at 200 Park Street.  Burk enjoyed work, his store family and helping customers, many who became long time friends.  He never retired but continued to go to the store daily before his health prevented it just a few weeks before his death.

Burk was married to Mary Wood of Paragould, Arkansas for 69 years.  They raised two sons. Burk was as excellent skier, snow skiing had become a family sport when living in Denver continuing with one or more yearly trips to various ski slopes into his 80's with friends, his sons and son's family.  The Winston Family YMCA on Riverside Avenue where he went daily to exercise on his way home from work became dear to Burk during his 35 year membership.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, sons Bob (wife Tanya) of Jacksonville and Tom (wife Kathy) of Winter Haven, Fl. Four grandsons, Jason, Jeremy, Matthew and Evan, and seven great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Burk's name to Summerville Missionary Baptist Church (690 W. 20th St., Jacksonville, Fl 32206) or the Winston Family YMCA (221 Riverside Ave, Jacksonville, Fl. 32202.)

The visitation will be held at Arlington Park Funeral Home (6920 Lone Star Rd, Jacksonville, Fl. 32211) on Monday, October 29, 2018, from 5 until 7 PM.  A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, October 30 at 11AM at Arlington Park Cemetery.
