Carlos Edward Lawton, of Jacksonville passed away Friday, July 13, 2018. He was 73.  He was born on January 23, 1945 to William Preston Lawton, Jr and Eula Keturah Smith in Savannah, Georgia.  Carlos was a graduate of Englewood High School and served in the United States Navy from 1965 to 1967.  He served for a short interim aboard the USS Franklin D Roosevelt and then remained on the USS Saratoga for most of his military service.  He always said he was a fireman, but his official title was that of Damage Controlman.

Carlos always had an interest in cars and upon leaving the service, started working as a bodyman for a car dealership.  He married only once to Candace.  He and her father Ken worked together at Terry Buick.  Carlos showed great attention to detail in his work.  Ken once said that Carlos was slow in his work, but you better believe it was perfect when he was done with it.   He eventually ended up working for a Chevrolet dealership and remained there until he retired.

Carlos is survived by his daughters; Dana Leigh and her husband Mark Hinds, Karin Renee and her husband Patrick McGill; four grandsons, Bryan and wife Kelsey, Hunter, Corbin and Linkin; granddaughters, Rebecca and Jessica and great grandson Hudson, as well as Russ Pilak that he always referred to as his grandson as he watched him grow up.

Carlos was preceded in death by both of his parents and his two siblings; his older brother William Preston Lawton III and younger brother Jackson Coy Lawton.  He was the middle child.

A celebration of Mr. Lawton's life will be held at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at Arlington Park Cemetery. The cemetery is located at 6920 Lone Star Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32211.  Military honors will be presented.  Arrangements are under the direction and care of Arlington Park Funeral Home, 6920 Lone Star Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32211 (904) 724-6384.
