Carol Lyng

December 4, 1930 – July 31, 2023

Carol Lyng, a longtime resident of Neptune Beach, Florida, entered through the gates of heaven in the early afternoon of Monday, July 31, 2023.  She died peacefully at the age of 92.

Carol was born Carol Yvonne Powelson in Dawson, Minnesota, on December 4, 1930, to Evert and Gertrude Twist Powelson.  She loved having spent her childhood on the family farm.  After graduating high school, Carol married her husband Wallace (Wally) Lyng on June 29, 1947.  They enjoyed a dedicated and Christ-centered marriage of 36 years until separated by Wally's death in 1984.

Following Wally's passing, Carol returned to her loved occupation of waitressing.  She spent several years working for Sawgrass Country Club and The Beach Hut, where she met the second love of her life, Archie Carroll.  Carol and Archie eloped and shared a loving relationship together until separated by Archie's death in 1999.

Carol was a strong, independent, loving, and supportive wife, mother and wonderful grandmother.  She enjoyed working hard, time with family, playing cards "500", crossword puzzles, and watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.

Carol is preceded in death by her husband Wallace Lyng, her husband Archie Carroll, her mother and father (Evert and Gertrude) Powelson, her sisters Irene Ninke, Myrle Farmer, and Erhelyn Johnson, Daughter Rosalee Vind, son-in-law Carl Vind, son-in-law Norwood Melcher, daughter-in-law Matilda Lyng, and grandson Carl Vind Jr.  She is survived by three children, daughters Paula (Melcher), Sydney (John) Blount and son Steven (Vicky) Lyng.  Carol was also blessed with 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Following a Christian Funeral service at Bethlehem Lutheran Church on Tuesday, August 8th at 12:00 pm., Carol will be buried at Arlington Park Cemetery, Jacksonville, Florida, next to her husband Wally.
