Obituary of Carroll J. Ingram

Carroll J. Ingram, Sr. passed away August 11th in Jacksonville, Florida after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. Carroll was born on December 19, 1926 in Bluett Falls, North Carolina and raised in Lilesville, North Carolina. He graduated from Lilesville High School in 1943. Carroll worked for Seaboard Airline Railroad until joining the United States Navy, serving in the Signal Corps from 1944 to 1946. Among his Navy stations was Shanghai, China. After his service with the Navy, Carroll returned to Seaboard Airline Railroad in Hamlet, North Carolina. He married the former Helen Teal in 1951, and they began raising a family together in Wadesboro, North Carolina. His career with the railroad relocated Carroll and his family to Jacksonville, Florida in 1967. The passion for trains and the rails always ran deep for Carroll. After 45 years in the railroad business, Carroll retired from CSX. Carroll was a longtime, devoted member of Southside Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida. He had been very active with his Sunday school class and had also served as a Deacon in the Church. Carroll's greatest love was always his family. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years Helen, daughter Gail and her husband Ray, son CJ and his wife Phyllis, and grandchildren Raymond, Kyle, JT, and Teal, his sisters Ruth Roberson and Violet Preston, and his brother Harold Dean. A Visitation followed by a memorial service will be held Tuesday, August 14 at 10 a.m. at the Arlington Park Cemetery and Funeral Home, 6920 Lone Star Road, Jacksonville, Florida. Carroll's final resting place will be in McFarlan, North Carolina. A Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 16, 2007 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Miller Rivers Caulder Funeral Home in Chesterfield, South Carolina. The Funeral service will held on Friday August 17, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Pleasant Hill Methodist Church in McFarlan, North Carolina. In celebration of Carroll's courageous life, contributions may be made to the Mayo Clinic Parkinson's Research, Department of Development, c/o Betsy Koehnen, 200 First Street SW, Rochester, MN 55905. Alternatively, donations may be made in gratitude for the comfort and caring provided by Northeast Florida Community Hospice, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257.
