Charles L. Ball, at the age of 82, died peacefully on April 14th, 2022.

He is survived by Jerri, his wife of 54 years, his sons, Charles, Bill, and David, his brothers, George, Patrick, Douglas, and John, and his sisters, Nancy, Sue, Becky, and Trish. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Gladys, and his brother, Jim.

After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the US Navy, serving 20 years before retiring. Not long afterward, he earned his associates degree from Florida Community College at Jacksonville. He continued to work there as an Associate Instructor teaching Marine Electrical Systems. He went on to work for Unified Industries, Inc. as an instructor teaching Marine Electrical Systems at various Naval facilities… or, in his own words, "… doing the same thing I did in the Navy, only I'm getting paid for it." He retired (again) 22 years later.

In retirement, he enjoyed woodworking, fishing, watching sports, spending time with his family & friends, and did his best (with varying degrees of success) to stay out from under his wife's feet. He greatly enjoyed his three sons and their spouses, Charles & Cathy, Bill & Gina, and David & Kristina, as well as his four grandchildren, Courtney, Jonathan, Amanda, and Jacob, and his great-grandson, Eli.

He also had a great sense of humor. When something struck him as funny, one could almost see the laughter building. It was as though he were privately enjoying the joke in the moments before the laughter, too great to be contained, finally escaped the confines of his body. The sound of that laughter will be sorely missed. But those who knew him, even briefly, will continue to hear its echoes... perhaps far longer than they'll remember the joke that caused it.

Services will be held Thursday, April 21st, 2022 at the Jacksonville National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. with full military honors, the Rev. James Jennings officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to your favorite Veteran's charity.
