Obituary of Charles Hereford

Charles Davis Hereford, 81, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 19, 2015 in his home surrounded by his family.

Charles was born in Bessemer, Alabama in 1934 to William T. and Stella Mae Hereford. He graduated from McAdory High School in Bessemer, Alabama in 1952. He was a member of the Air National Guard for 7 years He worked at Ryder Truck Lines in Birmingham and transferred to Jacksonville in 1960. He later worked at AAA Cooper Transportation and Laney & Duke Transportation where he retired from in 1998 as a rate clerk. He worked with Priority Couriers until his death.

Charles had a love for baking and made beautiful cakes. He loved collecting coins and bells and having the last name Hereford, loved collecting cow memorabilia. He loved his family dearly, especially all of his "babies". He was a very giving person and would help anyone he possibly could. He also was a jokester. It wasn't unusual for him to walk into a room or pick up the phone and say " I have a joke to tell you".

Charles is survived by his wife of 62 years, Kathleen Hereford; five children, Rick Hereford, Suzanne Hughes (Dwan), Tina Clark, Steve Hereford (Theresa) and Tommy Hereford (Cindy); 22 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Hereford; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and three brothers.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Dec. 23 at Dunns Creek Baptist, where he was a faithful member. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. prior to the service at the church.

Burial will be at Ferreira Cemetery after the memorial service.
