Obituary of Charles Kemerer
Charles Herbert Kemerer passed away July 16, 2014, at age 98, in Jacksonville, Florida.
He was born in Greensburg, PA, May 30, 1916 to the late Henry and Alice Kemerer. He was also preceded in death by his wife Hazel; sister, Irene and brothers, Lester, Francis, James and Russell Kemerer. His is survived by his sister Jean Dixon; brothers, Henry and John Kemerer; four children, Gerald Kemerer, Marilyn Kemerer, Richard Kemerer and Gail (John) Gibson; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Charles and Hazel grew up in the Greensburg, PA area. His career moved them to the College Park, MD area where they raised their family. The family was active members in the Riverdale Presbyterian Church. In 1981 they retired to Ocala, FL where they were members of the Silver Spring Shores Presbyterian Church. In 2006 they moved to Jacksonville, FL
Charles was employed by the United States Navy during WWII at the Naval Research Laboratory. As a civil employee, he remained on essential wartime work as a machinist until the war was over. Upon his retirement in 1979, The Department of Army recognized Charles for his outstanding 35 years of service as a machinist and quality control specialist.
His hobbies included driving cross country, listening to country music and square dancing. Charles was President of the Circulators Square Dance Club for several years.
Over the years, Charles and Hazel were a strong team-always opening the doors of their home-always serving as their brother's keeper. Whether it was parents, brothers, nephews, nieces or family friends, they were always there for them and making a difference in their lives.
Through his exemplary character, Charles has instilled in us the values of honesty, integrity, hard work, family, loving and caring for others and the value of using your God given talents to be the best servant that we can be in our lives. Charles has left us with the legacy of the character of his life, and many fond memories.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association with much gratitude.
A private family service is scheduled.
