Obituary of Clarence Johnson

Clarence Eugene (Swede) Johnson died peacefully surrounded by his family in Jacksonville, Fl on July 24, 2009. Clarence was born in Chicago, IL on January 23, 1921 to Caroline and Clarence E. Johnson both of Chicago, IL. Clarence attended Fenger High School in Chicago. In 1942 he enlisted in the US Army during WWII and participated in the Normandy invasion on D-Day. He served under General Patton and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the European African Middle Theatre Ribbon with a silver battle star and three overseas service bars. He was honorably discharged in 1945.

Clarence and his beloved wife Mary Jane and their three children moved to Miami, FL in 1956 after living in Chicago, IL for over 30 years.

He was a skilled carpenter by profession. He started his new career in hotel construction and worked on many of the famous hotels on Miami Beach. He became a residential contractor and had a successful remodeling business until 1982 when he retired.

He and Mary Jane moved to Port St. Lucie after retirement and lived there until she passed away in 1999, after 55 years of marriage.

Clarence is survived by his three daughters and one son. Nicolette Johnson LaPorte of St. Augustine, FL, Sandra Johnson Smithson of Woodstock, GA, Karen Marie Hellein of Sebring, FL and Calvin John Johnson of Frostproof, FL. He had nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Services were held on Sunday, July 26, 2009 with Arlington Park Funeral Home. Interment will take place at a later date at Forest Hills Memorial Park in Palm City, FL.
