Cora Sue Raiford (née Bryant,) 86, died peacefully at home on March 6, 2023. She was born October 8, 1936 in De Graff, Ohio to the late William T Bryant and Katherine Frances Bryant, née Williams. After Cora graduated from Thomas Jefferson Senior High in Tampa, Florida, she married Sidney C. Raiford in 1954. Cora is survived by her sisters, Marilyn Naughton and Judith Moreau, her son Sidney "Gus" Raiford II and wife Maria Raiford, and granddaughter Meredith Raiford. She is preceded in death by her husband Sidney C. Raiford and her grandson Andrew Wood.
An artist from the time she could hold a pen, Cora showed a natural talent for art at a very young age and was always eager to explore new mediums and techniques. As an illustrator for the Florida Times-Union, art director and graphic artist for Etienne Dupuch Jr Publications, and draftsperson at CDI Marine, Cora's art has been published thousands of times and brought her around the world. In retirement, Cora began an in-depth exploration of many mediums and visual arts and fell headfirst into the world of dollmaking. Ever-curious and resilient, Cora created dozens of published and award-winning dolls.
Cora loved black miniature poodles, cooking, Spanish guitar, period dramas, and telling stories through her art. In her study of life and exploration of the arts, Cora nurtured, taught, learned from, and inspired all who knew her.
