Obituary of Crosby Olinto

Crosby Olinto, born 30 September, 1922 in Bath, Maine, and the Youngest son of Helen B. Crosby and Peter A. Olinto, predeceased by his parents and siblings, Alicia Como and Peter Olinto Jr. Survived by his wife of 64 years, Anne Heffron Olinto, and six children; Crosby M. (Pam) Olinto of Smyrna, GA, Kim O. (Mike) Washington of Pinetta, FL, Karen (Bert) Smith of Fleming Island, FL, Brendon P. (Julie) Olinto of Jax, FL, Damon B. (Janet) Olinto of Jax, FL, and John H. (Camille) Olinto of Pembroke Pines, FL; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Terry (Janet) Heffron; many nieces, nephews and friends..

His ancestors arrived at the Plymouth Colony on the Mayflower II in 1624, and proceeded to Bath, where they became shipbuilders and, at one time, operated the largest fleet of schooners on the East coast. Active in politics, they were Mayors of Bath, Collector of Customs, State Representatives, and further, the economic and spiritual well-being of the good city of Bath.

A veteran of World War II, he was a Naval Aviator serving with the Second Night Squadron to fly from carriers. Released from active duty in 1946, he remained in the active reserve flying fighter aircraft and anti-submarine aircraft. He accomplished over 100 carrier landings and thirty-five night landings- and never blew a tire on landing!

He was a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, at Amherst, where he met his beloved wife, Anne, and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Theta Chi.

His civilian career was involved in the Fire and Casualty Insurance Business. He was Resident Manager of the Liberty Mutual office in Jax, Executive Vice President of Frank B. Hall of Florida, and Naughton Insurance Services. Crosby retired in 1992.

An avid golfer, he shot his age every year since the age of 71 and shot six holes-in-one on several courses. He enjoyed the companionship of his fellow golfers at Queens Harbour.

Family will receive friends at Arlington Park Funeral Home, 6920 Lone Star Road, Jacksonville, FL on Monday, November 18, 2013 from 6-8:00pm with a Rosary at 7:00. A Mass will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church, 742 Arlington Road North, Jacksonville, FL on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at 11:00am with a reception to follow after military honors at Arlington Park Cemetery.

A true gentleman, he was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be missed by all who loved him.
