With heavy hearts and cherished memories, we announce the passing of Cynthia Aljean West, who left this world peacefully on May 26, 2026, at the age of 88. Born under a palm tree on May 11, 1938 in sunny Miami, Florida, her life was a testament to love, resilience, and unwavering faith.
Aljean's journey was marked by her dedication to her Lord and family. She was a proud graduate of Landon High School, Class of 1956, where she was the president of the Future Nurses Club and excelled in Homemaking courses. Her passion for nurturing others naturally led her to a career as a Nurse's Aid at W.E. Cherry Elementary, where her gentle spirit and kind heart touched the lives of countless children.
Her devotion extended beyond her professional life and into the heart of her community. Aljean was a pillar of strength and grace within the Baptist Church, where she dedicated her life to service. Whether singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, or commemorating the milestones of those she held dear, Aljean's faith was the cornerstone of her life's work.
Aljean's love for life was evident in her many hobbies. She found joy in singing, swimming, and gardening, and she cherished every moment spent shopping and creating memories with her family and friends. Her laughter and warmth will be missed but never forgotten.
Aljean was predeceased by her loving parents, Al and Irene Hall; her devoted husband, Billy West; her beloved son, Dale West; her cherished grandson, Andrew West; and her dear sister, Earline Outman Norton. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her surviving family: her daughter Julie West; her brother Ron Hall and his wife Sue; her sister Debbie Ash and her husband David; her adoring grandchildren: Billy Thornton, Allison Sluys, Lynzey Thornton, Robin Catbagan, Westley Thornton; seven great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law and dearest friend, Pat West.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Aljean's remarkable life on May 29, 2026, at 11:00 AM for visitation, followed by a 12:00 PM service at Arlington Park Cemetery and Funeral Home, located at 6920 Lone Star Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32211. As we honor her legacy, we remember Aljean as a beacon of love and grace, whose spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Aljean's memory, to continue her legacy of giving and compassion.
