David P. Detlefsen, 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday February 29th, 2020. He was born to John and Pauline Detlefsen on April 26, 1933 in Amityville, NY, the youngest of 6 children.
David joined the Navy in 1951 and served four years. He was a Korean War Veteran. He then entered the private sector working for (Northrop) Grumman as an air fleet mechanic on several Navy aircraft carriers. On July 27, 1957, he married Eleanore Stegmann, and started their family. He retired from Grumman after 30 years and moved to Jacksonville, where he worked at NAS Jax, until 1999. Dave and Ellie then moved to Lakeland, Florida to enjoy golf and travel with his family and friends. Dave also decided he wasn't done working yet, so he enjoyed 10 years at Olive Garden, where he made many additional friends. Dave and Ellie then moved back to Jacksonville in 2013, to be closer to family.
He is Survived by his wife of 62 years, Eleanore Detlefsen; brother Ted (Claire) Detlefsen; his four children - Leslie (Brian) Gratz, Mark (Leslie) Detlefsen, John (Marion) Detlefsen, and Jeff (Angie) Detlefsen; seven grandchildren (Stephen, Toria, Kaylee, Rachel, Alisa, Dru and Aimee); and six great grandchildren (Jackson, Levi, Annalise, Alera, Ariel and coming soon Anya). Awaiting his arrival in heaven.... are his parents, brothers and sister, son Davy, and granddaughter Lanie and many loved ones to celebrate his homecoming.
A celebration of David's life will be scheduled at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction and care of Arlington Park Funeral Home, 6920 Lone Star Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32211 - (904) 724-6384.
