Obituary of Donald Miller

Donald Bergey Miller, 96, of Jacksonville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 7, 2008. He was born on April 14, 1911 in Altoona, Pennsylvania to Clarence Miller and Cora Gilliford Miller. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Frances Miller, his parents, and his four siblings: Alma, Mary, Stiles and Harold.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his daughter Judith Miller and son-in-law Dr. Robert H. Miller, granddaughters Kimberly Miller and Tara Miller Karlson, Grandson-in-law Alex Karlson and three great-grandchildren: Joel Adler, Jamie Adler and Nicholas Karlson.

Mr. Miller graduated from Tri-State College in Indiana, and after serving in the US Army, worked as an aeronautical engineer for the FAA in Washington, DC. He married Frances Eberst in December 1938, and they moved to Jacksonville in 1974.

He had a passion for model railroading and spent much of his retirement designing and building live steam engines. He was a founding member and former president of the Northeast Florida Live Steamers & Railroaders, Inc. He was active with this association well into his nineties, and his time with fellow live steamers brought him much joy. He will be well remembered for his enduring youth at heart, independent spirit, sweet nature and enthusiasm for life.

The family would like to thank Life Care Center of Jacksonville and Northeast Florida Community Hospice for their compassion and care for our Pop Pop during his final days.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, February 12th at 11a.m. at Arlington Park Cemetery and Funeral Home, 6920 Lone Star Road. The family will receive friends for visitation Monday night from 6-8:00p.m. at the funeral home.
