Donald J. Smith, 87, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2026, at 8:22 p.m., after a long illness, with his loving wife by his side.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Gabrielle Smith; his brother, Bud Smith; and his grandson, Danny Trigg II.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Sonja Smith; his children, Scott & Candace Smith, Cathy Leonard, Cynthia Wojcicki, Tammy Trigg, and Traci & Paul Tillman.

He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jessica & Christopher Williams, Meagan Trowbridge, Alexis & William Kozikowski, Elizabeth Leonard, Amanda Leonard, Stephanie & Jacob Adams, Daniel & Clare Smith, and Joshua & Sarah Smith.

His great-grandchildren include Jayden Nix, Allison Trowbridge, Colt and Nora Williams, Lincoln, Luke, and Lily Kozikowski, Sebastian and Josiah Adams, Noah and Evelyn Smith, and Josephine Smith.

Donald was born in Providence, Rhode Island, and proudly served in the United States Army.

He will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his service to his country, and the love he shared with those who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to Wolfson's Children Hospital of Jacksonville in honor of Donald Smith.
