Celebrating the life, love, and legacy of

Donita Wright

"For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand, I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."

II TIMOTHY 4:6-7

Donita Lewellen Wright, age 71, known by family and friends as "Donnie", passed away peacefully at the McGraw Hospice Center for Caring on Thursday March 1, 2018 in Jacksonville, FL.  She was a native of Detroit, Michigan, born February 18, 1947 to Walter Lewellen & Ethel Parmer. She survived three siblings, one brother Walter Glenn Lewellen (Maria) Wanda Lewellen Jenkins & Sandra Mae Lewellen Crump (Terry).

Donita was raised in the Baptist Church and loved the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal savior. In her early years, while working at Grinnell's Brothers Piano Store, she met Thomas Wright. They married in 1968 and to that union two children were born, Thomas Leon Wright and Monica Denise Wright-Burgess. Her special hobbies were collecting elephants, butterflies and her favorite yellow colored roses. Her love of family and friends were very important to her. Donita was liked and loved by each and every person that met her. She loved communicating with her childhood friends Palova Armstrong Mosley and Gwenny Tyler Anderson every day.

Donita's last profession was in Logistics with the United States Government (Army) at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. She retired in 2003 so she could spend more time with her grandchildren and travel to beautiful places. Donita loved life and enjoyed her friends and family unconditionally. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest gift.

She is preceded in death by her father, Walter Lewellen and her husband Thomas Wright. She is survived by her mother, Ethel Lewellen Stephens, and two children, Thomas Leon Wright and Monica Denise Wright-Burgess; her son-in-law, Lt  Marion Burgess, Jr., two grandchildren Tajuan Lamarr and Maya Janae; two nieces, Sanya Marie Buckner (Herman) and Erica Lewellen-Hall; one nephew, Darrnell Lasean Lewellen, and a host of other relatives and friends.

The absence of Donita in the lives of everyone she touched will leave a void, but it is up to each one of us to keep and cherish those memories we all have with her as she will be tremendously missed.
