Dorothy Revels "Aunt Bootsie" Deese passed peacefully on Tuesday, March 8, 2016, to meet her Lord and past loved ones. Dorothy was a resident at Cypress Village' memory care unit. She is survived by her daughter, Maria Mark; son-in-law, Bob Mark; her heart and soul grandson, Garrett Mark; sister Nancy J. Powell; brother-in-law, Raleigh Powell; nieces and nephews, Cindy Clay, Pamela (Kenneth)Castor; Randy (Glenda) Powell and Daryl (Donna) Powell; and numerous great-nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by her husband, Herbert L. Deese; parents Dollie Kelly Revels and Ernest Revels; and many step-brothers and step-sisters.
Dorothy was born and raised in Columbia, SC and moved to Jacksonville in 1978. She was a faithful member of Central Church of the Nazarene and later Oceanside Christian Church. She was always known for her warm smile, sense of humor and love for animals and children and never met a stranger. She even gave the Atlantic Beach garbage men colas to drink after picking up her garbage. They would take her garbage cans back to the house so she wouldn't have to pull them from the driveway. But her greatest love was her grandson, Garrett, and watching him play baseball. She never missed a game even in frigid temperatures or boiling heat - she was his number fan! Dorothy will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but we know she is where she needs to be for now.
The family would like to recognize and sincerely thank the wonderful memory care staff and Community Hospice of NE FL for their compassion and attentiveness to ensure Dorothy's comfort and well-being. She could not have been in better hands.
Dorothy's life will be honored on Monday, March 14 at 1:00 pm at Central Church of the Nazarene, 2130 University Blvd., N., Jacksonville, FL. A private family viewing will be held from 12:00 pm - 12:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Dorothy's name to Community Hospice of NE FL. Services and arrangements are under the care of Arlington Park Funeral Home, 6920 Lone Star Rd., Jacksonville, FL. Please sign the guestbook online at www.arlingtonparkfuneralhome.com
