IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dorothy Lee
Colborn
March 11, 1929 – March 1, 2020
On March 1st, 2020, Dorothy Lee Colborn went home to be with Jesus. Born March 11th, 1929 in Bluefield, West Virginia, she met and married Edward H. Hardison and moved to Florida where she raised her two sons and lived until her death. Ed Hardison worked in insurance and they moved frequently, beginning in Bushnell, Florida and finally settling in Jacksonville in 1965. She enjoyed many activities during her time in Florida including boating, playing bridge, yard work, making halloween costumes, sewing, and in her later years, playing computer games. To help support the family, she had various jobs including seamstress, AT&T salesperson and dental office assistant. A natural redhead, she was known as CT (carrot top) to many of her friends. She married her second husband, Walter Colborn on May 6, 1988 who predeceased her on August 28, 1990.
The family grew up in the Methodist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher. In later years, after her children were on their own, and attending Baptist churches, she began attending and joined First Baptist Church of Jacksonville where she worshipped for years. She most recently joined Holiday Hill Baptist Church that was closer to her home and where it was easier for her to participate due to her advancing age. She loved Jesus and for a long time had been ready to meet Him when He called her home.
Having grown up in the snow, she wanted to see it one more time. Several miraculous events occurred to produce the timing for a trip to Waltham, Vermont to visit her oldest son and daughter-in-law for a chance to experience snow. On Saturday morning, February 29th, God blessed her with a good snowfall (that was not predicted). She walked around with her son, enjoying the snow, posing for pictures (which she didn't like to do) and made a snow angel. Thirty hours later, she was with the angels in heaven as the result of heart failure.
Dorothy is survived by her sons Edward (Smokey) H. Hardison, III (Suzanne) and Charlton (Chuck) H. Hardison (Pam), 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at Arlington Park Cemetery at 11:00 am, Friday March 20th. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jacksonville humane society.
