Obituary of Duane Gilliland

Duane Gilliland passed away on November 3, 2012. He was born on September 23, 1937 in Hebron, Illinois. Duane met Linda, his wife of 51 years, at the University of Wisconsin where he graduated with a degree in Agriculture. He also received his Masters Degree in Public Administration from Governors State University. Duane began his career in Public Administration with the US Department of HUD office in Chicago, Illinois. Following that, he worked in several city governments. He returned to HUD in 1975 and continued to work in their Jacksonville office until his retirement in 2001. Duane was a member of Fourth Church of Christ, Scientist in Jacksonville, FL, where he served as Chairman of the Board, Treasurer, and held several other positions. Throughout his life he enjoyed riding his horse, participating in running events, stamp and coin collecting, and trading stocks. Duane had a great love for animals. His family includes his wife, Linda; children Jean Martin and Dean Gilliland; grandchildren John Martin (Jamison), and Kylie Hitchens (Bowman);sisters; Dorothy Spielman, and Louise Heeren(deceased), and five nieces and four nephews.
