Obituary of Edward Starkey

Edward William Starkey, 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 5, 2012. He was born in Canton, Ohio on July 27, 1921. Mr. Starkey graduated from the University of Alabama, served in the US Navy during WWII and Korea and was a member of Fighter Squadron VS 742 until his death.

In 1953, Mr. Starkey moved his family to Jacksonville, FL and created Ed Starkey & Associates, Inc., a manufacturers representative agency covering the Southeastern US which he ran successfully until his retirement in 1980. In addition to serving on many boards of directors, he was also instrumental in the development and construction of Baymeadows Golf & Country Club, Jacksonville, FL and the redevelopment of the Ponce de Leon Golf Resort & Tennis Villas in St. Augustine, FL.

Mr. Starkey was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Dora Childers Starkey. He is survived by his sons, Dane Starkey (Cindy) and Mark Starkey (Walda); four grandchildren, Chad Starkey (Laura), Chris Starkey (Kara), Mark Steven Starkey, Jr., and Melissa Starkey; and three great-grandchildren, Skylar, Jack and Ryan Starkey.

Visitation will be Monday, December 10 from 5 - 7 p.m. at Arlington Park Cemetery & Funeral Home, 6920 Lonestar Road with a private celebration of life service on Tuesday.
