Obituary of Effie West

Effie Hollingsworth West (Mimi) departed peacefully on January 8, 2009. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister.

Effie spent her life caring for her loved ones and strangers alike. Effie was born in McKee, Kentucky on January 29, 1921. She was the oldest sibling to 3 sisters and 1 brother whom she loved dearly and cared for as a mother. She married the love of her life, Oliver Franklin West (Papa), and the two of them were the proud parents of 3 children: Arthur West, William West and Linda Williams. The family forged a new beginning in Jacksonville in 1970.

Effie found joy in caring for family. One of her many joys was cooking delicious meals for family gatherings as well as cooking for children in the Florida school system. She loved to sew and made countless outfits for her friends and family members children. Mimi also enjoyed quilt making, macram crafts, ceramics and Bingo. Effie will be remembered for her unwavering strength, her solid Christian faith and her steadfast dignity. Effie Hollingsworth West will be loved and missed forever.

Services to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2008 at Arlington Park Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 6-8:00p.m. on Tuesday the 13th at the funeral home. The family would like to especially give thanks for the loving care, kindness and support given by all the Life Path Hospice Nurses. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Cloverdale Assisted Living Facility, 1114 West County Line Road, Lutz, FL 33549.
