Obituary of Ernest White
Ernest Echols White, 96, of Jacksonville passed away July 4, 2007 after a lengthy illness. He was born in Williston, Florida on March 2, 1911 to James Montgomery White and Alma Juanita Atkinson.
Mr. White moved to Jacksonville at age 10 and was a 1931 graduate of Andrew Jackson High School. He married Louise Doherty on November 7, 1936. Mr. White worked for the Coca-Cola Company and retired in 1975. He was a choir director at Livingston Memorial Methodist Church for many years and in his later years was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.
Ernest had a beautiful tenor voice and was a much requested soloist for weddings and funerals. Besides his love of singing he was an avid photographer and a member of the Jacksonville Art League.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and four brothers. He is survived by his devoted wife of 70 years, Louise; his daughters Kathryn (Ed) Tompkins and Edith Dumas; 6 grandchildren Eddie, Greg, Amy, Jamie, Ryan and Skye; 4 great grandchildren Kara, Jared, Tyler and Judson; and many nieces and nephews. Ernest was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a friend to all.
