Obituary of Evelyn Guilfoyle

Evelyn A. Guilfoyle, known fondly as "Mrs. G," passed away Thursday, September 11, 2008.

Evelyn was born and raised in New York but claimed Jacksonville her home after moving here in 1949. She graduated from The University of North Florida in 1975 after raising her 5 children. She began her teaching career at Christ the King Catholic School where she had been a founding parishioner. She retired from the Christ the King faculty after 15 years teaching English grammar and literature, where hundreds of students benefited from her daily commitment to excellence.

Mrs. G was an avid baseball enthusiast, a generous and giving friend, mentor and tutor who never said "no" to a request for help or assistance. She was a proud member of the Ft. Caroline American Legion for 45 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry Guilfoyle, and her daughter, Mary McGowan Woodworth.

Admired and loved by many, she is survived by her son, Paul McGowan and three daughters, Kathleen McGowan Vance, Winnie McGowan Richardson and Paula McGowan. She will also be missed by her grandchildren, David, Heather, Sean, Dana, Armen, Ara, Damon, Mehgan, Sarah, Michelle and Stephen. She also had five great grandchildren, Isaac, Jack, Mary, Tyler and Kalia. She also says a loving farewell to Bill Goode and his family, Elizabeth McGovern and many wonderful and supportive friends.

A rosary will be held Monday, September 15th from 6-8 p.m. at Arlington Park Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held in her honor at Christ the King Catholic Church Tuesday, September 16th at 11 a.m. Please sign the on-line guest book at www.arlingtonparkfuneralhome.com.
