IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Evelyn Harrell
Tanner
June 13, 1929 – December 27, 2020
Evelyn Harrell Tanner, age 91, passed away on December 27, 2020 in her adopted hometown of 53 years Jacksonville, FL. She was born in Columbus, Georgia on June 13, 1929 to Drew and Ruby in Columbus, GA where she was raised and lived for the next 38 years. Graduating in 1947 from Jordan High School she was promptly employed as a secretary. Her employment continued on this path throughout her career, eventually rising to executive secretary. On April 6, 1951 Evelyn married James Louie "Lou" Tanner. Married for 69 loving years, Lou proceeded her in death 3 months earlier on September 20, 2020.
Evelyn was a great cook and loved cooking for others. Every meal or snack she prepared no matter how simple or complicated was something to look forward to. She also had a soft heart for animals, especially cats. Over the years she rescued and rehomed a countless number of cats that would have otherwise not survived. Her civic interest was in voting which lead to many years as a poll worker and eventually precinct leader.
Evelyn was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as grandmother or "TT" as her two grandsons called her. Survived by her children, their spouses and grandsons; daughter Jenny and husband Wayne Corbitt, son Brad and wife Tracy, daughter Terri Tanner, grandsons Zane and Carson Tanner. Deeply loved and cherished by all she will be missed but remains in our hearts.
