During these almost 99 years, she served her Lord, her church, and her family.

Florence Peer was born in Ludlow, Illinois, and attended Ludlow schools through her Junior year in high school. She graduated from Rantoul Illinois Township High School in June 1942. After graduation she joined the Illinois Bell Telephone System in Rockford, Illinois, where she served in the offices and later trained as an operator. She was transferred to Champaign, Illinois, as an operator. There she met her future husband, Virgil Charlton, while she was visiting Rantoul where her parents lived, and he worked. Florence and Virgil were married on February 20, 1945. They moved to Tolono, Illinois, where they lived for more than 25 years. While in Tolono their son and daughter were born. Florence later worked as a telephone operator, as a teller and secretary at Citizen's Bank of Tolono, as secretary at Unity High School and as a research librarian at the University of Illinois. Florence and Virgil retired to Florida where they lived in Ft. Meyers, Cape Coral and Jacksonville. During retirement she volunteered her time to the church playing the piano, sewing pillows, lap quilts and bibs and visiting shut-ins. She also volunteered at BEAM for more than 12 years.

Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil; her parents James and Belle(Shoaf) Peer; three brothers, Franklin, William and Robert and 2 sisters, Marjorie and Mary Elizabeth. She is survived by her son, Ronald "Rick" Charlton (Lois) and daughter Janet Beck (Richard Goehl); 4 grandchildren: Erin Charlton (Troy Achey), Nathan Charlton (Jennifer), Chris Beck and Scott Beck; and 5 great grandchildren: Thomas Achey, Will and Ben Charlton, Charlotte Beck and Eli Beck.
