Obituary

Flory Maria Victoria Pena Aranda, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2025, in Jacksonville, Florida. Born on April 23, 1940, in San Jose, Costa Rica, Flory lived a life rich with love and devotion to her family and faith.

Flory loved her home country, & she showed incredible courage by being the first to make the leap and immigrate to the United States in 1964. She devoted herself to working hard to pave the way for her family to join her here. She built a life filled with purpose in New York City & eventually settled down in Jacksonville, FL in 1980. She dedicated many years of service at Memorial Hospital where she not only worked tirelessly, but also continued to give back as a devoted volunteer after her retirement. Her compassion for others extended beyond the hospital walls; Flory attended Atlantic Beach Assembly of God every Sunday & frequently volunteered. She shared her unwavering faith and kindness with all who crossed her path.

A woman of deep spirituality and a love for God that radiated through every aspect of her life—Flory's heart was always open to those around her. She had an adventurous spirit that led her to travel far and wide – journeying to 5 out of the 7 continents & numerous countries within each. Each journey enriched not just her own life but also inspired those fortunate enough to hear about them.

Her greatest joy came from spending time with family. Flory is survived by her loving daughter Marlene and son-in-law Randall; granddaughters Rebekah, Nicole, & Carissa; great-grandchild Israel; Sisters Cecilia & Mayela; beloved sister-in-law Socorro; and many other family members. Each member of this close-knit family held a special place in Flory's heart—she reveled in their accomplishments while providing steadfast support during challenging times.

Flory's legacy will forever be etched into our hearts. In honoring Flory's memory let us carry forward the lessons she taught us about loving without limits—the importance of community—and above all else—the power of faith in the Lord. Though she may no longer walk among us physically—her spirit lives on within each one who knew or loved her.
