Obituary of Frank Driggers

Frank Driggers "Grandpap" passed away on May 19, 2011, after a lengthy, courageous battle with COPD. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank A. and mother, Dorothea; sister, Jean; daughter, Sue; and granddaughter, Kimberly. He is survived by Sarah, his devoted wife and companion of fifty years; her sons, Dennis, Leroy, and Buddy Tawes; his loving son David and his brother Earl. Frank was also a loved uncle and grandfather to 13 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Born in Jacksonville on November 30, 1930, he grew up in Jacksonville 's Riverside and Arlington . He attended John Gorrie Junior High School before working at Jacksonville Yacht and Ship Supply. A highly respected businessman in mechanical and marine engineering, he was also employed by W&O Supply, Valve repair and Flotech where he worked until the year of his passing. He was a mentor to many and thought of his coworkers as family. Frank was an avid boater and fisherman. He was a member of the Captain's Club and a Captain in the Inaugural Jacksonville Kingfish Tournament. He also loved to work in the yard and watch football. He was thought of as a keeper that would do all he could to help someone in need. Frank will always be remembered by everyone as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Mayo Clinic of Jacksonville, Florida. Family will receive friends at Arlington Park Funeral Home, 6920 Lone Star Road , Jacksonville , Florida on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 from 6-8:00pm with his funeral to be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 11:00am with Reverend Dorothy Taylor officiating.
