Obituary

Frank Haden Meyer Sr, age 89, known by family and friends as "Frankie", passed away peacefully at home on Sunday March 4, 2018 in Jacksonville, FL.  He was a native of Jacksonville, born August 10, 1928 to Joseph Thomas & Edith Marie Meyer. He survived three brothers Kenneth, Joseph Thomas (J.T.) & Martin Meyer.

Frankie was raised in the Catholic Church and loved his Savior and Heavenly Father. In his early construction and electrician years, he donated time and resources to build a community hall. His special talents and love of family and community led him to business and industry that reflected those talents.

Frankie's last profession was real estate development where he developed Tradeport by the airport, and later prepared timber land for residential communities still in process.  His ever changing and dynamic career included waterslide parks, Disney's first electric-light water parade. He had the only searchlights in Florida that he rented for grand openings and special events.  He bought the first Macintosh computer in Florida & taught himself how to use it. He built bomb shelters in the 60s for the Cuban missile crises & in 2005 started a survival supply business and saferoom research facility which he did instead of retiring. His ingenuity and fascination with creating kept his gaze looking toward the future of technology.

He is survived by his wife Barbara Stancil Meyer, and seven of 8 children, Brenda Meyer Pohl (Tom), Haden Meyer, Gail Meyer, Bill Meyer, Lori Meyer, Bert Meyer and Paul Meyer (Anne), eight grandchildren Heather Meyer (Kevin), Erin Meyer Stowe (Dan), Kacey Cooper (Reid), Bill Jr. Vickers (Season), Kim Meyer (Louie), Max Meyer, Bryce Meyer and Melissa Meyer, and eleven great-grandchildren Travis Meyer, Kennedy Campbell, Eric Meyer, Ian Meyer, Haden Stowe, Blake Stowe, Gavin Vickers, Scarlett Vickers, Joey Cooper, Mason Smith and Jase Smith.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 7, 2018 from 5-7 pm in the Arlington Park Funeral Home Chapel.  Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 8, 2018 at 1pm in the Arlington Park Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Howard McMinn officiating.
