Obituary of Frederick Scobie

SCOBIE - Frederick P. Scobie (Ted), 94, passed away November 12, 2014. Ted was born in Minneapolis on December 14, 1919. He was the son of Frederick S. Scobie and Mildred Spang Scobie. His father was a career Army officer, so, growing up, Ted lived in and around military installations in the U.S. and Panama. He was the oldest of five children; three brothers and two sisters. During World War II, he served in the Army, in Europe, in the Rhineland and in the Ardennes, and was awarded 3 Bronze Stars. In 1946, after the War, he worked as a civilian with the Air Force Controllers Office and the Army Corps of Engineers, in the Panama Canal Zone. In 1947, he married Rita Dolan, in St. Mary's Chapel, Balboa, Panama Canal Zone. In 1950 he relocated to Jacksonville where he continued to work for the Corps of Engineers until retiring in 1977. Ted was an avid golfer and a member of the University Park and Selva Marina golf courses. Ted and Rita were among the founding members of Christ the King Catholic Church, and, later, members of Resurrection Catholic Church for over 50 years. He was involved in many church activities, including being an usher and member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society. Ted was predeceased by his wife, Rita, in 1999, and is survived by his sister, Ann Ridley, two sons, Dennis (Debra) and Gary (Janet), 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. A vigil service will be held at 6:00 PM, on Monday, November 17, at Arlington Park Funeral Home, 6920, Lone Star Rd. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 18, at 10 AM, officiated by Father Thanh Nguyen at Christ the King Church, 742 Arlington Rd.
