IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gary Glen
Soud
August 2, 1945 – May 27, 2024
Gary Glen Soud M.D. died May 27. He was 78 years old. Gary was born, and grew up, in Jacksonville. He attended Florida State University and the University of Barcelona, Spain graduating in 1975 as a Doctor of Medicine and Surgery.
Gary completed his internship and pediatric residency at University Hospital of Jacksonville. He was Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, Director of the Pediatric Emergency Department and Co-Director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Additionally, Gary was Director of the SIDS Home Monitoring Program, and a consultant with the Children's Crisis Center.
In 1982 Gary opened Mandarin Pediatrics. Gary had a gift for teaching and relished private practice pediatrics. He loved going to work every day. Spending time with children and their families made his day. As the years flew by, the highlight of his day was seeing his "grandchildren", the children of grown patients, coming back to his practice. Gary's gift for teaching was evident in the comments of the medical and nursing students whom he mentored. Reflections from the students said he was "an awesome preceptor, a wonderful teacher, and a fantastic role model".
Gary served on the Board of Wolfson Children's Hospital and was Chief of Staff in 1993 & 1994. Gary was a member of the First Coast Child Advocates Board of Directors serving as Vice President and Chair of the Governance Committee.
Both of Gary's sons were musicians attending LaVilla (Middle) School of the Arts and Douglas Anderson School of the Arts Orchestra programs. Watching the positive effects of music and the arts on the students led Gary to become a strong proponent and supporter of the orchestra programs.
Gary is survived by his wife Treesa, his two sons, Ryan Soud and Samuel Soud, his brother the Rev. Dr. Eugene Soud, sister-in-law Linda Soud, and numerous, much loved, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Please join Gary's family Saturday, June 22, 11:00 AM at Lakewood Presbyterian Church 2001 University Blvd. W for a Memorial Service honoring his life. A reception will immediately follow the service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Wolfson Childrens Hospital (https://www.hopestartshere.com/) or the Douglas Anderson School of the Arts Orchestra 501c3 (https://daorchestra.org/donations).
