IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gene Alvin
Wagner
December 13, 1947 – April 29, 2025
Gene Alvin Wagner, 77, of Stamping Ground, Kentucky, passed away on April 29, 2025. Born on December 13, 1947, to the late George Wagner and Alice Johnson, Gene lived a full life rooted in resilience, craftsmanship, and a deep love for the land.
At the age of five, Gene faced the immense challenge of losing the ability to walk. But in true Gene fashion—marked by strength and tenacity—he defied all odds and regained that ability just two years later. He grew up on a farm, where he developed not only a strong work ethic but also a lifelong appreciation for nature, hard work, and the simple joys of country living.
A master machinist by trade, Gene had an unmatched skill with his hands. He was also an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing down by the Palatka River and hunting in Metter, Georgia—his favorite escape. He was particularly proud of his antique car collection, especially his beloved Corvettes, and found great joy riding his tractor, tending his garden, and embracing his rural roots.
Gene's passions extended to the kitchen, where he was known for frying the best-tasting fish around and turning anyone into a fan of deer and rabbit meat. He was a storyteller at heart—his tales could light up a porch gathering and leave everyone laughing or reflecting.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Patti Griffin; his brother, Robert Wagner; and his daughter, Amanda Wagner.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Darlene Wagner; two sons, Jody Wagner (Terri) and Chris Wagner (Betty); stepdaughter, Dallas; step-grandson, Logan; three grandchildren, Bridget, Piper, and Robert; and four sisters, Georgia, Linda, Bonnie, and Tammie. He is also lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews, and his loyal dog and companion, Mimi.
Gene Alvin Wagner was a man of grit, warmth, and deep roots—a true country soul who will be remembered with love and gratitude by all who knew him.
