Obituary of Geneva Brownfield

BROWNFIELD

Martha Geneva Oldham Brownfield was called to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, August 24, 2008. She was born on December 2, 1919 in Pleasant Shade, Tennessee, the daughter of Maggie Lee Smith Oldham and William Casper Oldham. She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandson Brett and her beloved husband, Eldon Robert Brownfield. Prior to her husband's death, the couple were married for fifty-four years.

She is survived by her daughter Judi Brownfield Gordon and her husband Charles; two sons and their wives, Kenneth and Dian Brownfield, and Thomas and Brenda Brownfield; seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and one great great grandson.

Other family members include a brother Lucien Oldham; two sisters Mai Hampton and Jean Anderson.

Mrs. Brownfield and her family moved from Old Hickory, Tennessee to Jacksonville in 1954 where she became involved immediately within the community. She was active in the bowling leagues within the Arlington area and was a member of several area bridge clubs. She was also a life-long Republican who, not only thrived in political debate, but was also elected to serve the city as President of the Republican Women's Club of Jacksonville.

She was a lady of great character and wit and was a lifelong Christian. She was a member of Terry Parker Baptist Church. She enjoyed being with family and friends and took great pride in each of their accomplishments. She also loved cheering for the "Florida Gators".

The family will receive friends from 6 8 PM on Wednesday, August 27th at Arlington Park Cemetery and Funeral Home, 6920 Lone Star Road.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, August 28th, at Arlington Park Cemetery and Funeral Home with interment to follow.
