Retired US Navy Aviation Boatswains Mate to CPO George Molchak, 79 passed away from a brief illness on December 12, 2015.

George was born on April 21, 1936 in Portage, Pennsylvania; the youngest of eight children to Michal and Katrina Molchak. He grew up in a small coal mining town of Hooversville, Pennsylvania before moving to Cleveland, Ohio where he graduated from John Hays High School in 1954.

On the 29th of November 1960 he enlisted in the US Navy, boot camp at Great Lakes, Illinois, before his first duty station in Rota, Spain. Then, in 1963 George was assigned to his first ship, the USS Franklin Roosevelt CVA-42. The following year he was on commissioning crew (plank holder) of the USS Guam LPH-9.

In 1964 George met Antoinette Catherine Pomilio, the following year they married on July 10th. On April 26, 1966, George became a father to a son named George Martin along with being stationed in Lakehurst, NJ. In 1969 the Navy sent him to the west coast where he was assigned to the decommissioning crew of the USS Bonhomme Richard CVA-31. While on an extended cruise on April 28, 1970 George received a telegram informing him of a daughter named Michelle Ann had come into the world.

In 1971, he and his family relocated to the island of Guam. George spent the next three years as a customs agent at Agana Naval Station before returning back to lakehurst, NJ as a firefighter instructor for the next three years. From 1977 to 1980 George was assigned to the USS Guadalcanal LPH-7. While on the ship he made rank of Chief Petty Officer. From 1980 to 1982 he once again was assigned to the USS Guam LPH-9.

On June 16, 1982 he moved from Virginia to the Sunshine State. First stationed at NAS Jacksonville (82-85) the finally from 85-87 the USS Saratoga CVA-60, Whereon August 31, 1987 George Retired from the Navy after 27 years of Military service. He spent the next 3 years in active naval reserves and countless odd and temporary jobs. Before 1990 when George became employed by Continental Printing Company as a courier. He enjoyed working there for over 17 years. Even when he was not working, he kept up with many of his former co-workers and bosses.

George's fellowship in AA since February 25, 1983 has been a source of inspiration for many people. He loved doing word searches on his down time, was a avid 500 rummy card player and enjoyed puttering around the house. George became known for handing cards and candy to everyone.

George is survived by his son, George and his daughter Michelle both residents of Jacksonville and a brother Andrew of Mount View, MO, along with countless nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Antoinette (2005) of forty years, his parents Michal and Katrina Molchak, five sisters Ann, mary, Susan, Julie and Katherine and a brother Michael.
