IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George K.
Shami
May 9, 1936 – January 7, 2026
George K. Shami, a man of unwavering faith, dedicated service, and profound love for his family, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2026, surrounded by those he held dear. Born on May 9, 1936, to Khalil and Shafouka Shami, George lived a life defined by hard work, laughter, and a soul rooted in his devotion to God.
A LEGACY OF LOVE AND FAMILY
George's life changed forever in New York City, where he met the love of his life,
Roswitha. Their union was a testament to enduring love, spanning 65 beautiful
years of marriage. Together, they created a life filled with shared devotion and a
lasting foundation for their family.
George was a devoted father to Charles (Susan), Heidi (Michael), and Sonia (Craig).
He took immense pride in his role as a grandfather, leaving a legacy of wisdom and
love in the lives of Anthony, Alexander, John (Mabel), George, Jeb, and Albert.
Coming from a large and close-knit family, George was one of eleven children. He is
remembered alongside his siblings and their spouses: Elias (Diane), Betty (Albert),
Antoinette (Michel), Antoine (Rosemary), Emile (Samia), Yvette (Anthony), Emily
(Luka), Nadia (John), Joseph (Margaret), and Peter (Huguette).
SERVICE AND CAREER
A proud patriot, George served as a Paratrooper in the United States Army and was
honorably discharged in 1964. Following his military service, he channeled his
discipline and work ethic into the business world. He was the successful owner and
operator of AGR Fabricators in Jacksonville, Florida, until his retirement. A true
family man, he found great joy in working alongside several of his family members
throughout his career.
FAITH AND COMMUNITY
George was a devout Catholic whose life was an extension of his prayers. A faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Jacksonville, he served the parish as an usher and worshiped daily. His strong Christian faith was the compass that guided him through life's challenges and joys alike.
A LIFE JOYFULLY LIVED
Beyond his professional and civic duties, George was known for his zest for life. He was often found enjoying long walks with Roswitha, traveling to new places, or showcasing his talents in the kitchen. He was a natural socialite who loved nothing more than joking around and sharing a laugh with friends and family. His warmth and humor made every gathering brighter.
In Leiu of flowers, please make a donation in memory of George to Holy Family Catholic Church.
