Obituary of George Troller

George R. Troller Sr., 89, passed away Monday, December 17, 2012. He was born on July 17, 1923 in Waukegan, Illinois to the late George and Mary Troller. George was known as Bob to his family, and George to his friends. He is survived by his wife Marian; three sons; two daughters; twelve grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; one sister; two brothers and numerous nieces and nephews along with a multitude of friends. George had a very rich and full life. He lived in a Great Nation, the United States of America, of which he was very proud, in an era of enormous triumphs, tragedies, highs and lows, happiness and sadness. At the early age of six, George lived through the Great Depression. He was proud to join the United States Navy at the Age of seventeen and served on an aircraft carrier in the Pacific for the duration of World War II. George went on to make a career of the Navy and retired as a Chief Aviation Boatswains Mate in 1961. In civilian life, George pursued several fields before completing his time in the work force, at the age of seventy-two, as a computer technician. George spent the last thirty-nine years of his life involved deeply in Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). He was touched by, and in turn touched countless lives in the program. We humans are all broken in one way or another and we can't help regretting our brokenness and wondering why. In God's Infinite Wisdom, George and his AA friends had to suffer the ravages of alcoholism to enable them to frequently share their story and thus help others with the same affliction. AA truly changed George's Life. He was immensely proud to give and receive from AA.
