Georgia West Buzash, 101, passed away at home, surrounded by family, on January 30, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband, Colonel Albert S. Buzash, Sr, her brother Marshall A. West, a grandson Albert S. Buzash III and an eighteen month old great granddaughter Sarah Beth Jones. She is survived by her children, Albert S. Buzash, Jr. of Jacksonville, Brenda B. Cook of Orange Park, and Susan A. Varner of Jacksonville. She had 11 grandchildren and 14 greatgrandchildren.
She was born in Little Rock, Arkansas to Marshall and Florence West. After the early and untimely death of her father, she, her brother and her mother moved to New Jersey. She and Albert were married in 1940 and had sixty-seven years together. A strong and independent Army wife, she joined her husband in Japan, Germany, and Taiwan, and cared for her family during his deployments.
After his retirement from the army, they moved to St. Petersburg, Florida, where she was a mainstay of the Central Bible Church. They later moved to Jacksonville to be close to her youngest daughter Susan, where they developed new friends and were active in the Fort Caroline Christian Church. In later years, they moved in with their daughter, Brenda, where she lived for 11 years until her passing.
She never met a stranger. She was an extraordinary judge of character and seemed to look into your very soul. She will be remembered for her sharp and incisive mind, her strong sense of family, and the love and care she gave to all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be at the Arlington Park Funeral Home at 6 PM, on February 3 and services at the same location at 10AM, on Thursday, February 4.
