Gladys Clark
Atz
Apr 9, 1928 — Apr 8, 2019
Tequesta
Gladys Carolyn Clark (Happy) Atz age 90, passed away April 8, 2019 in Tequesta, FL. She was born on April 9, 1928 in Jacksonville, FL to Fred and Lucretia Loftin Clark.
Happy was a woman ahead of her time, graduating from Robert E. Lee High School at the age of 17 and Florida State University 4 years later. She moved to Baton Rouge, LA where she completed a master's Degree in zoology. She returned to Jacksonville in 1955 to be an inaugural member of the laboratory at the newly opened Baptist Memorial Hospital. She subsequently directed the school of medical technology at Baptist for decades. Happy was fortunate to meet John Atz on a blind date in 1962, which led to a nearly 55-year partnership in marriage.
Happy loved doing all types of crafts, her friends, and her church. She could always be counted on to be a den mother, chaperone, and homework helper and always did so with a humorous flair. She was a prominent member of the Arlington Christian Church for over 50 years. Wherever she went she could be heard bragging about her successful twin boys and their families.
Happy was preceded in death by her husband John, her parents and her sister Hazel. She is survived by her twin sons Andy Atz (Teresa) of Mt. Pleasant, SC and John C. Atz (Lisa) of Tequesta, FL, and grandchildren David, Josh, Drew, Erin, and Jonathan.
