He is survived by his four children: Dale Smith (Patricia) and Cheryl Jackson (Michael) of Madison, Tennessee , Cary Smith , of Jacksonville, Florida , and Marty Smith (Cathy) of O cala , Florida ; two step-daughters he loved as his own , Sharon Barber (Rick) and Kathleen Tomlinson (Robbie) of Jacksonville, Florida ; two sisters, Jean Reeves and Jane Smith of Jacksonville, Florida; fifteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Glenn was born on March 18, 1929 in Haffey , Pennsylvania into a music-loving family. At a very young age , this left-handed boy picked up a right-handed guitar and taught himself to play with the guitar turned upside down. When he was 9 and his sister Jean was 7, they performed on Major Bowes and the Original Amateur Hour in New York City. That love of music and performing continued through his life. He performed on the Glenn Reeve's Show with his singing sisters, and later played and sang for 35 years with Mike and Polly Johnson in The Sounds of Bluegrass. He also played and sang regularly in church.
Glenn's primary occupation was a banker with Atlantic National Bank in Jacksonville. In his later years he worked as a distributor for Wexler Coffee before establishing his own business, Nan's Nibbles.
Glenn was a member of University Boulevard Church of the Nazarene for more than 50 years, serving as a choir member, Sunday School teacher, and Church Board member. He was a humble, gentle, and kind man. The word most used to describe him in tributes since his passing is "sweet." He was dearly loved by family and friends alike.
A memorial service for Glenn Smith (Dad, Grandpa, Papa) will be held on Sunday, January 16, at 2:00 pm at University Boulevard Church of the Nazarene, 3930 University Boulevard South in Jacksonville . The family will receive friends before the service at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you send donations to Vitas Healthcare of Jacksonville, FL, who provided hospice care for Glenn in his final days .
