Gwendolyn Louise Voss Carpenter Hadden passed away peacefully on August 20, 2025. Gwen was born on February 24, 1933, in Jacksonville, Florida, she was the cherished daughter of Fred and LeEtta Voss. She grew up in a close-knit family and attended Andrew Jackson High School.
On March 10, 1951, Gwen married Rufus Carpenter, and they were blessed with three children—Pamela, Darrell, and Carolyn. In 1958, the family moved to Tampa, then returned to Jacksonville in 1971.

Gwen was the heart of her home—a devoted daughter, a steadfast wife, a nurturing mother, and a treasured friend. She embraced her role as a homemaker with grace, strength, and unwavering love, and her warmth touched everyone who knew her.

After the passing of her second husband, William Leslie Hadden, Gwen remained a pillar of strength, continuing to care deeply for her family and friends. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life, and she was a devoted member of Arlington Baptist Church for over forty years.
Gwen is now reunited with her beloved parents, her sister Laverne Fisher, her brother Fred Voss, Jr., and her husbands Rufus Carpenter and William Leslie Hadden.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness through her children—Pamela Mason (Tim) of Saint Johns, Darrell Carpenter (Ritsy) of Orlando, and Carolyn Bryant (Michael) of Jacksonville—along with seven grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren (with two more joyfully expected), and a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will miss her deeply.

Gwen's Memorial Service will be held on Monday, August 25th, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at Arlington Park Funeral Home, 6920 Lone Star Rd. Jacksonville, FL. 32211.
