Harold Lee Smith, 91, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away December 4th , 2022. His loving wife of 65 years was by his side when he drifted off to be with the Lord. He was born in Louisville, Kentucky to Abram Owen Smith, Sr. and Alvina Wingfield Smith, on May 3, 1931. He attended Louisville Male High School. His intentions were to work for L&N Railroad Co. but was drafted in the Army. He was stationed in Ft Riley, Kansas during the Korean War. Upon his discharge from the Army in 1953, Corporal Harold Smith went on to work at L&N Railroad Co. while attending night classes at the University of Louisville. After knowing the girl next door his entire life, he finally got to marry her. Harold and Alice Marie Bynum shared wedding vows on October 6, 1957. They had four children, Lisa Ann, Donald, Kenneth, and David. The family resided in Louisville, Kentucky until the L&N Railroad Co. moved their administrative headquarters to Jacksonville, Florida in 1980. Harold continued his position at the railroad until he retired in 1989 as an accountant. He continued to stay busy as an active board member in the Alderman Park Civic Association, he served on the local Jacksonville board for AARP, and was dedicated to the betterment of the community.
Harold is preceded in death by his daughter Lisa Ann, and is survived by his wife Alice Marie, along with his three sons and their wives: Donald (Heidi), Kenneth (Cheryl), David (Barbie). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Hallie, Ethan, Elliott, Nolan, Ian, Preston, Garett, Marcus, and Emily, along with a host of friends.
